A stunning mid game turnaround has seen the Spotswood senior side cement 2nd spot on the WRFL ladder ahead of the final game of the season this weekend. With their backs against the wall, a seemingly flat Spotswood side was well and truly on the back foot against Werribee on Saturday heading into the final term down by 2. But despite the deficit, the Woodsmen managed to find the next gear they had been searching for in recent weeks, which have included a demoralising loss to Hoppers Crossing and a sloppy encounter against St Albans. Murray Boyd was inspirational once again. Inspired by defender turned forward Gareth Newtons aerial acrobatics and the returning defender Sam Davis run, the Woodsmen flipped a forgone conclusion into a thrilling win. Davis and Newton had fought their hardest to contain the scoring for most of the day, with Davis return from injury a welcome sight. Despite showing flashes of their hard running game style, the Woodsmen just could not put it together for the length of the field, with mistakes proving crucial throughout the contest. Tom Langlands was relentless for the entire game, and shifted the momentum in the final term with his midfield grunt work, which was ably assisted by skipper Murray Boyd in the ruck. The elderly statesmen of the team, Langlands and Boyd proved their game is still a head and shoulders above the competition, with their skill level and fitness prominent once again. It is without surprise that these two will be high on the list of vote getters for both the club and league vote counts as the season progresses. With the game on the line, coach Eames decided to throw caution out the window and roll the dice, moving his talisman defender Newton deep forward in the final term. The move proved a master stroke as Newton calmly slotted a goal to get his side back in the game before a series of towering marks crushed the hearts of the Werribee faithful. Although Newton had the chance to win the game off his own boot, a miscalculation of his run up saw his kick smothered in the dying seconds. The passage of play did not go without reward though, as a quick thinking Josh Norton swooped on the pill and kicked a behind under immense pressure. The leadership and guidance of Boyd and Langlands ensured the Woodsmen controlled the dying minutes of the game, resulting in a terrific victory. This win gives the Woodsmen breathing space on the ladder, before they gear up to take on Caroline Springs in the final game this Saturday before the 2. Final score Spotswood 8. Werribee 9. 7. 6. A vintage display by Will Langlands wasnt enough to score victory over Werribee in what was an entertaining game of football. Langlands was the clear best on ground on the day, perhaps inspired by the raucous crowd support that was on offer to him in the way of some returning premiership heroes for their respective reunions. Sean Buttigieg Clarke provided some highlights with his three goals, using his goal nous to great advantage over his opponents for the day, while Langlands also chimed in with 2 majors. Tom Doer Tolhurst displayed a knack for finding the ball in the windy conditions, a wind specialist according to some, while Jeremy Cross and Brayden Macdonald also tried their best. Although Spotswood is now officially out of finals contention in the reserves, head to Caroline Springs this weekend to watch our players represent the Green and Gold with pride for the final time in 2. Final score Spotswood 9. Werribee 9. 1. 3. Goals S. Buttigieg Clarke 3, W. Langlands 2, T. Doer Tolhurst, J. Cross, N. Aidonis, D. Zambon. Best W. Langlands, B. Mac. DONALD, J. Cross, J. Orchard, T. Doer Tolhurst, L. Greenwood. Under 1. An inspired second quarter was not enough for the home side, as Werribee ran rampant over our Spotswood Under 1. Saturday. Josh Drage and Cam Buck were tireless in their efforts to control the game, but it was not enough to sway the momentum as a well drilled Werribee side kicked away. The second quarter was encouraging though, as Spotswood kicked 4 goals for the term matching that of their opponents. The Woodsmen will now face Caroline Springs for their final clash for 2. Final score Spotswood 5. Werribee  2. 1. 1. Goal Kickers A. Kenyi, E. Rosado, T. Barnes, J. Drage, M. Skinns. Best Players J. Drage, C. Buck, J. Davis, A. Kenyi, J. Bunting, P. OKeefe. The 9. 4 Most Badass Soldiers Who Ever LivedContinue Reading Below. This place was so badass, it got its own TV show, TV movies, regular movies, board game, and computer game. Oh, and some books too. The Escape Hermann Goering, the second biggest douche in Germany in the 1. Colditz escape proof. Several prisoners, including Neave, set out to prove him wrong using various batshit insane methods. One prisoner was sewn into a mattress in order to be smuggled out. Two others built an entire glider out of scavenged wood. Tunnels were also popular, but like each of these attempts, ultimately big fat failures to be fair, the glider just didnt get finished in time. Neave, perhaps wisely, settled on a subtler concept of escape. Finagling a Polish army tunic and cap, he painted them to look more like the Germans uniforms. Then he proceeded to walk out the front door. Unfortunately, search lights reacted with the paint hed used, making it shine a bright green. Continue Reading Below. Failure did not deter him. He tried the exact same plan five months later, this time using cardboard, cloth, and some more paint to make a more authentic looking uniform. He and another prisoner, Anthony Luteyn, who had his own costume, just needed an opportunity. That opportunity came in the form of an all inmate stage show that was being put on at the prison no, really. The two slipped under the stage, into a room that connected to a corridor which lead, not to freedom, but to the one place no prisoner wants to wind up the guardhouse. Wearing British uniforms over fake German uniforms over civilian clothing, the two lowered themselves into the room, ditched the British uniforms, entered the guardhouse, and pretended like they owned the place. Nobody noticed. Continue Reading Below. Having rehearsed their exit, they paused at the door leading out of the prison, exchanged a few remarks in German, and even put on their gloves before calmly leaving. The guards were completely fooled into thinking Neave and Luteyn were visiting officers. After passing through the courtyard and through the moat, they ditched their German uniforms and became two Dutch workers with papers, which were also fakes that gave them permission to travel from Leipzig to Ulm. When they tried to buy train tickets for somewhere else, the police arrested them, later bringing Neaves and Luteyn to the foreign workers office because they really thought they were Dutch workers who had gotten confused the duo split the moment the nice policemen werent looking. Even when the Hitler Youth stopped them, Neaves and Luteyn remained composed and told another lie They were Germans, from the north, of course. After this, Neaves and Luteyn kept to the country and travelled on foot. Hungry and a little frostbitten, they made it into Switzerland.
